Reverse Raffle

The reverse raffle is coming up fast on the 13th of April. There are still some tickets available. The price is $50.00 per person to be entered into the drawing and that also gets you a steak dinner. The companion tickets are $25.00 per person, which only gets you a steak dinner. Every 5th person that is drawn gets a prize. The last three people in the running get a chance to either split $2,000 or they can take a chance and try for the whole $2,000. All of the money that is raised at the cattlemans events go back to its members via educational meetings, scholarships, or sponsoring members to go to educational events. It is a good cause so don’t miss your chance to give a little and maybe receive a prize while doing so.

STARK COUNTY FAIR

2012 Stark County Fair The SCCA was a new supporter this year of the Carcass Show. Each participant whose steer carcass was judged at “Choice” or better was awarded $100 from the SCCA for a job well done. We hope to continue encouraging our youth participation in this class so that we can impress upon them the value of proper care, feeding, and nutrition of their animals.

The Stark County Cattlemen’s Association Distinguished Youth Award recipients for 2012 are Dana Ward and Kara Humphrey. Each was presented with a check for $1000 at the beginning of the Steer Auction on Saturday night. Dana Ward is the daughter of Mark & Amy Ward. She will be attending Walsh University and hopes to become a veterinarian. Kara Humphrey is the daughter of Bruff & Yvette Humphrey. She is in her second year at Ohio State University ATI, also majoring in large animal science. Congratulations to both of these young ladies and best of luck from the Stark County Cattlemen’s Association! Thank you cards from Dana and Kara related that our generosity makes it possible for young people to achieve their dreams of a college education. Our invaluable scholarship supporters this year were once again Kelly Palmer Insurance, Hometown Veterinary Service, and Consumers’ National Bank. Please accept our sincere appreciation for all you do for our Association and our local communities.

The SCCA was once again a proud sponsor and supporter of the 2012 Born and Raised Breeders class at the Fair. As an Association, we paid $25 , $15, and $10 to the top three winners in each weight division, and an additional $200 and $100 to the Champion and Reserve Champion.

December Meeting

Thursday, December 6th at 7:00p.m. at PBS Animal Health. The speakers for this evening are Katie Oney, a sales rep from Novartis Animal Health, along with Dr. Moore. They will be covering calf vaccination protocols. Our speaker will provide a “light supper”. Since our guests are making this gracious gesture, please allow us to give them an approximation of the number of our members who will be in sttendance. RSVP to Becky Vincent,

Stark County Fair

The Stark County Fair went great. We were able to purchase one steer that was shown by Matt Shaffer, son of Jim and Dianna Shaffer. Their family is active members of the SCCA. The winners of the steer raffle was Jeff Porter, Greg Weekley, and Ron Marshall. They will each receive a quarter of a beef from the steer purchased from Matt Shaffer. The remaining quarter will be made into hamburgers for the farm bureau tour to be sold. Our undergrad scholarship went to Kara Humphrey and Dana Ward. Thank you to all the volunteers that helped with the booth anything else at the fair

STEER RAFFLE

The steer raffle is being. Tickets are $5 a peice. The steer will be divided 4 ways. 3 winners each receive a 1/4 of beef, the remaining 1/4 of beef will be made into hamburger patties to be sold at the farm bureau tour. All tickets must be sold by Aug.21. Processing is done by Kiko Meats. Winner needs to contact Kiko for how they want it cut. The winner doesn’t have to be present at the drawing. The drawing is at steer show, during county bred and owned Thursday Aug. 30.
